North Carolina Bio-hazard Collection Program

In 2015, the NCHRC successfully advocated for the passage of HB 712 allowing four counties in the state to participate in a bio-hazard pilot project that collects and safely disposes of used needles.  Starting in 2016 volunteers and staff will collect used syringes in Cumberland, Guilford, Haywood and Brunswick (Pending) counties, making the public areas in those counties safer for children and community members by decreasing their exposure to used needles, HIV and hepatitis C.

For information on how to access or locate a bio-hazard program in one of the four counties, please contact NCHRC general service email
